Peoria City Council

Peoria City Council meetings have been overwhelmed with extremist rhetoric demanding the resignation of Mayor Dennette Dunn. The calls are being led by Vice Mayor Jason Beck, who claims the mayor should step down because a friend of Dunn who was convicted of a sex offense in 1984 once stayed at the mayor’s house during a crisis and failed to register it as his secondary address. This would effectively would undo the will of southern Peoria Pine District voters who re-elected Dunn in 2022. Dunn has maintained that she did nothing wrong and that the situation is politically motivated as retaliation over her pro-LGBTQ+ stances .

The next City Council meeting is 10/17/2023 at 6pm, 8401 West Monroe Street, Peoria, Arizona. Show up early and claim a seat and speak during public comments.

Deer Valley Unified School District

Pro-public education Board Member Ann Elizabeth Ordway—a frequent voice of reason the board—shared that she has cancer and may miss meetings or teleconference while she undergoes chemotherapy. A constituent in her district has put together this fundraiser to help her with treatment.
VP Kim Fisher read scripture as she threatened to do on social media last week, quoting Revelations 3:15-16.
Public comments included misinformed complaints about a proposed bond override and racist remarks regarding a Taiwanese semiconductor plant in the area.

Volunteers needed to collect signatures for abortion amendment

Arizona for Abortion Access has launched the petition gathering effort to put abortion on the ballot in 2024. The “Arizona Abortion Access Act” would enshrine the fundamental right to abortion in Arizona’s constitution for generations to come. The amendment is critical to ensure abortion access in the state.

The campaign must collect 383,923 valid signatures from Arizona voters by July 3, 2024 in order to qualify on the ballot. Sign up to be a volunteer here.
