Last week, we tasted a couple small victories. SB1044—banning the state from using providers like Planned Parenthood for sex education—died in Senate Heath. And HB2294—banning non-binary gender identities on state IDs—failed on the House floor.
These bills are small victories--they could come back later in session--but they’re reminders that long-term organizing and ongoing communication with lawmakers can are making a difference.
With this in mind, we’re calling on constituents this week to contact your own State Senator in support of SCR1050—a resolution in favor of lifting the spending cap for public schools.
If the cap is not increased by March 1, public education will head toward financial disaster, being forced to cut $1.2 billion from their budgets.
It is within our grasp to make this happen. An identical resolution has already passed with overwhelming bipartisan support in the House. The bill appears to be only 1 vote short in the Senate. When you have a second, please join us in calling your State Senator’s office and leaving a message to #WaiveTheCap.
Our friends at NARAL Pro-Choice Arizona are hosting weekly phonebanks to call members to take action to prevent these bills restricting abortion access from moving forward—and holding representatives accountable if they do. Join them every Wednesday for a weekly action over Zoom at 6pm AZ time. Click below for details.
