At the last Peoria Unified School District meeting… - Two Christian nationalist board members illegally quoted two particularly militant Bible passages (Deuteronomy 5:29 and Ephesians 6:13)—a week after quoting another one which called for the extermination of all non-Christians.
- These same two promised to vote against absolutely everything on the agenda at every future meeting as retaliation for the board voting against a transgender bathroom ban.
Read about the whole thing on our Substack. Here’s the good news: these Christian nationalists are outnumbered 3-2 on the board by people like Member Melissa Ewing, who called them both out for reading scripture, reminding them that they’ve been warned they’re violating the Establishment Clause. Board members like Ewing are hearing a lot of exhausting public comments espousing hate and calls for Christian supremacy. They also need to hear from supportive constituents if we expect them to run again next election. Let’s remind them: extremists are in the minority. A very recent survey found that less than 20 percent of Americans sympathize with Christian nationalist views, and only 10 percent consider themselves to be Christian nationalists. We demonstrate this when people like the ones in this video speak out, and counter much of the hateful and misinformed rhetoric that the board members usually hear. The next PUSD meeting is Thursday, June 22nd at 6pm 6330 West Thunderbird Road, Glendale, Arizona. The folks in the video are expected to attend again. If you’re in the district, show up and stand with them. If it’s your first time, drop us a line and let us know and we’ll help you get in the mix. |
