America's history is rife with state-sanctioned bounty hunting, such as with the KKK and Fugitive Slave Law.  Afghanistan, Iran, and the USSR have encouraged people to spy on their neighbors and have executed people over draconian morality laws. None of these decisions have ever turned out well. Yet US lawmakers and the Supreme Court want to re-institutionalize this kind of hell, starting with Texas' SB8.
