Tell IRS: enforce law on Trump-worshipping megachurch

For the fifth time (that we know of) Dream City Church has illegally hosted a Trump campaign rally, completely violating federal law banning tax-exempt churches from supporting candidates. Several complaints have been filed with the IRS with no response.

The IRS has the power to enforce this law, but due to lack of resources (or interest) often does not act on cases like this without being sufficiently compelled. That means we need to ramp up the volume of complaints.

You don't need to use legal jargon or cite any statutes or cases. The IRS knows them. But if this blatant violation of the law by a church upsets you, please file a complaint with the IRS. Below is our page that tells you exactly how:

Demand veto on bill promoting gender “detransition”

The State House’s Republican majority has sent anti-trans bill SB1511 to the Governor, sensationalizing the idea of gender “detransitioning” by requiring health insurers to cover the procedure.

Generally, detransitioning is rare. When trans people do it, it’s usually because of the harassment and discrimination they receive. A major survey showed 82.5% of detransitioning people reported at least one external driving factor like family pressure and social stigma. Those who had detransitioned purely because of personal preference reported only 0.4% of the overall sample.

This problematic bill also discourages patients from seeking both gender transition and detransition by requiring a report when a patient comes in for these confidential procedures.

SB1511 is opposed by Human Rights Campaign AZ, GLSEN AZ, AZTYPO, and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona.

You can oppose this bill by urging Governor Hobbs to veto it at (602) 542-4331 or at the below comment form.

Summer of Solutions w/ LOOKOUT

The past four years, certain conservatives have pushed "parental rights'' to suppress equity education. But who is left out of the conversation? Who is expressing support for parents that have LGBTQ+ kids? And what tools are parents using to protect themselves and their children?

On July 21st, Secular AZ’s Jeanne Casteen will be part of a panel asking these questions organized by pro-secular LGBTQ+ news outlet LOOKOUT.

Invitations will be sent to both free and paid LOOKOUT subscribers. (Tickets offered first to paid subscribers.)

More of What You're Helping Us Do

Secular AZ at National School Board Conference

Our Executive Director Jeanne Casteen recently attended the National School Board Conference with Association of Secular Elected Officials (ASEO) in New Orleans. While there, Casteen — herself a former school board member and current ASEO member — teamed with ASEO board member Kristiana de Leon to identify new members of the secular community, engaged in interfaith dialogues around shared goals, and dispelled misconceptions about the secular community.

ASEO was the only organization representing nonreligious elected officials and advocating for secular policy. And it looks like they rattled some cages:

Tweet from the event by Peoria Unified School District school board member Kim Fisher declaring us "psychos"

“It was clear our presence was welcomed and needed,” said De Leon. “After all, school board member directors are on the front lines resisting white Christian nationalism."

To build solidarity around our commitment to secular, inclusive public schools, Casteen and ASEO members distributed and gathered signatures for a new Inclusion Pledge. Under it, officials swear to uphold inclusive, secular values in their classrooms.

Secular AZ staff and volunteers are able to attend events like this thanks to those who have made a generous, tax-deductible donation sustaining our organization.
